Casillas; Game Over

⊆ 00.00 by Mo Hyo Se | ˜ 0 comments »

Sustaining international excellence is hard. There is a constant tug of war between continuity and adaptation. The more success a team has the harder it is to make (or to even see) necessary changes. There is the fickleness of soccer and tournament play. Players age and, having success at club and International level, rack up mileage. That’s before you get to the trouble of motivating players who have done it all to keep hitting that prime level of focus and dedication. There’s a reason three of the past four World Cup champions (and three of the past four European champions) crashed out in the group stage at the next World Cup. Winning one tournament makes you a legend. Winning three is absurd. In retrospect, phasing Xavi out after Euro 2012 would have been a wise decision. After that tournament, Xavi’s decline was hypothetical. The past season at club level it has been manifest. He was no longer in a position to carry Spain. As they showed in the second match against Chile, the Spanish had no conception of a way to play without him.

The same goes for Iker Casillas. He was once among the world’s best goalkeepers. But, for the past two seasons, he hasn’t been the starter at Real Madrid. He looked unsure in the Champions League Final. That form extended into this tournament, where his flubs were responsible for multiple goals. It’s easier on paper to remove Xavi (most influential Barca player) and Casillas (most influential Real Madrid player) than in practice. But necessary decisions are seldom easy. A national team coach should have been prepared to make them. Some of Spain’s problems were uncontrollable. The Spanish had no ready replacement for Carlos Puyol at center back. Sergio Ramos and Gerard Piqué did not work well together. Playing an unfit Piqué in the first match was a bad option. Playing an out-of-form Javi Martinez there in the second was not that much better of one.

Iker Casillas, Spain’s bedrock in goal since the 2002 World Cup, wound up with a day to forget vs. the Netherlands. Four years ago San Iker came up with huge save in Spain’s win in extra time against the Netherlands, helping the country win its first World Cup and third straight major tournament. Before everyone rushes to write off Spain, remember it lost to Switzerland in its 2010 World Cup opener and went on to win the tournament. Casillas will catch most of the flack, but the miserable days from defenders Sergio Ramos and Gerard Pique shouldn’t be overlooked. Integrating striker Diego Costa who hasn’t logged very many games alongside the Real Madrid and Barcelona players who comprise the core of the Spanish team, looks like it might not have been as easy as most pundits assumed, too. the citizen no longer interested in de rossi

msn.foxsports.com

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini recently said on Italian TV that the club did not need Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi so it’s bizarre as to why they have suddenly been linked with one of the best current Barcelona midfielders in history. A bid of £60 million for Sergio Busquets is just around the corner if you believe the latest reports but a player of De Rossi’s style is much more what City need at the moment so it’s hard to understand the logic behind the reports.

City needs a Yaya Toure in their midfield who doesn’t bomb forward and attack. They have greatly missed Nigel De Jong this season and they should put all of their efforts into signing De Rossi because he is the sort of player the club needs. City don’t have a heavyweight midfielder who can sit in front of the back four and protect the central defenders. They may have done away with De Jong because they thought Vincent Kompany had such a good season last year, he doesn’t really need protecting.

However, if they stick an extra defensive barrier in the middle of the team then it makes it more difficult for opposition sides to mount pressure on their goal. Someone to race around the pitch, committing fouls for the good of the team, getting stuck in and taking yellow cards because City are exposed on the counter attack. Busquets is not the sort of player who will do this frequently because of the way he has been brought up to play his football at Barcelona. Yes, he has played predominantly in defensive positions but he is not bulky and physical enough to cope with the pace and the power of the Premier League.

Anyone who has watched a Barcelona game in the last two years will know that Busquets is one of the players who generally rolls around on the floor in apparent agony any time he gets slightly touched by an opposition player. He is a better alternative to some of the creative players in the City midfield but they might be buying him for the wrong reasons.

The only way the arrival of Busquets would work is if De Rossi joined at the same time as the Guardian reports suggest. However, this seems unlikely to happen considering Mancini’s recent comments and considering City had the chance to sign De Rossi and did not push the deal through. City need another body in midfield but it’s doubtful whether it will be either of the players mentioned above. ibra's grumble and messi's record

soccerroomtoday.com

It was not a spectacular night of football like Barca's 7-1 thrashing of Bayer Leverkusen in the last round where Lionel Messi bagged a record five goals. The quarter-final tie was effectively decided by two first-half penalties converted by Messi, which saw him move on to 51 Champions League goals and at just 24 is the youngest to break the 50 landmark. Messi also broke the record for goals scored in a Champions League campaign, his two goals on the night bringing his tally to 14 and breaking the previous total held by himself and Ruud van Nistelrooy of 12. But AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic sparked controversy after his side's Champions League elimination by Barcelona suggesting the holders receive a helping hand from referees at the Camp Nou. Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho says it is impossible to beat Barca at the Camp Nou and an angry Ibrahimovic, who spent a disappointing season with Barca during the 2009-10 campaign, claimed the same after the 3-1 defeat on Tuesday which followed a 0-0 draw at the San Siro in the first leg.

Barca controlled the opening stages of the game and took the lead after a series of errors from Milan. Massimo Ambrosini was dispossessed in midfield by Messi who tore into the area and then appeared to make the wrong decision in playing the ball back to Xavi. Full-back Luca Antonini dispossessed the Spain international but then went through the back of Messi and the referee awarded the penalty which the Argentine despatched into the corner. Milan equalised through Antonio Nocerino but then came the controversial penalty decision with the shirt tug by Nesta on Busquets as a corner was being delivered. Messi stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way from 12 yards and then at the start of the second half Andres Iniesta put the game beyond Milan. (http://sports.ndtv.com)

While the debate rages around him as to whether he should be considered one of the greatest, if not the greatest, player of all time, Messi continues to notch up goals at a dizzying rate. With two months of the season left to play, he has already amassed 58 goals in all competitions. In stark contrast, his former team mate at Barcelona, Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who had been touted as the main threat to Barca's progress on Tuesday, was left ranting about the referee. The Milan players were fuming over Dutch referee Bjorn Kuipers decision to penalise Alessandro Nesta for pulling Sergio Busquets's shirt at a corner for the second penalty. CR7&Messi; don't compare them. Shall we?

Barcelona's midfield maestro, Xavi Hernández, has spoken at this Thursday's press conference after his team's training session and lauded Lionel Messi's recent performances. Moreover, the Spanish midfielder believes that Messi is a one-of-a-kind player and that he can't be compared to Real Madrid's ace, Cristiano Ronaldo. Earlier this week, the Argentinian broke another record in the UEFA Champions League, by scoring 5 goals in a single match, in a Barcelona 7-1 home win against Bayer Leverkusen.

Xavi started by commenting the latest Blaugrana performances, including the 7-1 home win against Bayer Leverkusen, obtained this last Wednesday. Xavi: "Good results may happen sometimes and others not, but we're definitely happy with the way we've been playing. We're having a great season and we'll do our best to recover the 10 points disadvantage in La Liga, even though that doesn't depend exclusively on us, but rather on who's leading the table [Real Madrid]", pointed out the Catalan player.

When asked if this UEFA Champions League edition is destined to have another Clasico in hands, Xavi agreed that there is a good possibility for that to happen, but he also reminded that Real Madrid still has to beat CSKA Moscow, before the Champions League quarter-finals draw. Xavi: "There have been a few surprises this year and there's still a quarter-finals draw coming up. However, Real Madrid has to win against CSKA Moscow first. If that happens, then it's true that there will be a good chance of seeing Barcelona and Real Madrid facing each other at the UEFA Champions League final."

When it came to talk about what Lionel Messi has been doing and achieving for Barcelona, Xavi just surrendered to the Argentinian talent. The journalists wanted to know the Spanish midfielder's opinion on a possible comparison between Messi and Ronaldo, but he preferred not to do so.

Xavi: "Leo Messi is incomparable, as he is a unique player. There simply is no other player who can make the difference as he does and in so many games. When he doesn't score a goal, he assists you. He truly is fantastic!", remarked Xavi when praising his Argentinian teammate at Barcelona. He would still leave a note on how important Pep Guardiola has been for Barça and Lionel Messi's development as a player. (ronaldo7.net)

Barcelona fought out a 2-2 draw with Real Madrid and went through to the Copa del Ray seminfinals thanks to a 1-2 win away in the first leg. (scoop.co.nz)

Real Madrid, 2-1 losers at home in the first leg of their Copa del Rey quarterfinal against Barcelona, are desperate to edge out their fierce rivals and achieve an improbable place in the semifinals. In order to advance, they're going to have to ditch the brutal defensive tactics they've employed in the past and go instead with free-flowing attacking football. It's a gamble, and one that's not that likely to pay off, but it's definitely going to be entertaining. (sbnation.com)

Real Madrid coach, Jose Mourinho, applying different strategies in the second leg of this. If in the first leg Madrid dominated by players who bertipikal survive, this time Mourinho plays with the type of attacking players. The result, manages to look pressed Madrid Barcelona's defense since the beginning of the first round. Even a golden opportunity they have been able to create on the 3rd minute, when the Kaka kick must be blocked with difficulty by the host goalkeeper Jose Manuel Pinto.

Pinto re-create the brilliant rescue in the 11th minute. This time, the efforts of Cristiano RonaldoRonaldo, who succeeded his break. In the 24th minute, Lionel MessiLionel Messi is capable of directing the ball into the goal Madrid. Luckily for the hosts, attempts Messi free kick was still able to be broken easily by Iker CasillasIker Casillas. Madrid almost winning in the 25th minute. Speculative kick conducted Mesut Oezil just deliver the ball into the crossbar Barcelona. The ball was reluctant to enter into the host's goal. Two minutes later, Pinto made a blunder that nearly disastrous fruition. Pinto gave her the wrong bait that it leads to Gonzalo Higuain. Luckily, Higuain being selfish by executing its own opportunities so it is still able to be broken by both the Barcelona goalkeeper.

Continued to attack, Madrid conceded first in the 43rd minute. Is a substitute, Pedro Rodriguez, who was able to make the home fans cheered. Starting acceleration of Messi, who then releases a sweet feed to Pedro that is not guarded. Calmly, Pedro capable goalkeeper Casillas can only be stunned to see it. A few seconds before halftime, Barcelona have scored two. This time the goalkeeper Casillas is Dani Alves fired hard from outside the penalty box. The first half ended 2-0 to Barcelona excellence.

At the beginning of the second half, Madrid almost dropping them. Utilizing a free kick Xabi AlonsoXabi Alonso, Sergio RamosSergio Ramos able to find the net with a header Barcelona. Unfortunately, the goal was disallowed because the referee thought Ramos was a foul on Alves first. Already a two-goal lead, Barcelona continue to apply their attacking style of play. Effective game also characteristic of Pep Guardiola's troops in this fight. While Madrid's players more often wasting the ball by doing the wrong bait. Once get the chance, Madrid players could not actually used it well.

Entering the 65th minute, Real Madrid game improved and the results they managed to find the net Barcelona in the 68th minute.Receiving feedback from Oezil breakthrough, Ronaldo is able to fool Pinto before struck the ball into the goal with his right foot. Four minutes later, Madrid Barcelona goalkeeper again.Benzema who received a pass from Jose Callejon made it past Carles Puyol and beat Pinto with his right leg kick. Madrid was only needed one more goal to qualify for the next round.

Both teams alternated offensive. The threat by the threat of players born from both teams. However, it has not been successfully exploited to perfection. Disastrous for the Madrid occurred in the 89th minute. They have to play with 10 men after Sergio Ramos received a second yellow card for elbowing Sergio BusquetsSergio Busquets when the duel in the air. Of course this is a loss to Madrid to play with 10 men when they want to find one additional goal.

The result, Madrid failed to add a pot of their goals and given up their ambition to retain the title. (allvoices.com)

FRANCESC “Cesc” FABREGAS

⊆ 20.06 by Mo Hyo Se | ˜ 1 comments »

Penampilan sensasionalnya mengundang pujian The Professor – julukan Wenger.

Big four in the get-richer club

⊆ 06.29 by Mo Hyo Se | ˜ 0 comments »

Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal have established themselves in the world top five of highest-earning clubs, according to a new report. They made £580m between them last season and Deloitte, the business consultancy which compiles the Football Money League, believes their revenues will only increase as English clubs as a whole seek to maximise their money-making potential abroad.

"Manchester United have 300m overseas supporters but do not make as much money from them as possible," said Deloitte's Alan Switzer. "Even £2 extra from each fan would make an enormous difference. That is something all the big English clubs are now focusing on. The idea of a 39th game is part of that strategy."

A ninth Premier League title combined with a run to the Champions League semi-finals and a £14m-a-year shirt sponsorship deal helped United earn £212.1m in 2007. Chelsea made £190.5m in the same period and Arsenal took £177.6m, mainly from corporate revenue which doubled to £91m in their first season at the Emirates Stadium.

There are six English clubs in the top 20, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United being the others. Financial analysts expect more to follow in 2008 because of this season's £300m Premier League broadcast deal.

The rich list 2008
1 (1) Real Madrid £236.2m
2 (4) Manchester United £212.1m
3 (2) Barcelona £195.3m
